Non-Profit
Our core services for non-profits include data management and technical solutions, program evaluation, and spatial analysis.
Data Strategy Assessment:
A data strategy in a non-profit organization needs to meet at least four benchmarks:
Generates evidence: Data is reliable, accessible, actionable, and can answer the right questions.
Efficient & affordable: The data strategy should save time and money.
User-friendly: Interacting with data should not require a high technical acumen.
A data strategy assessment is a good starting place for strengthening evidence-based practices and policies.
Are you maximizing your existing data and technology solutions? Are there easy steps you can take to greatly improve monitoring/reporting, decision-making, and communication?
We can help you assess your existing data strategy and make recommendations based on necessary requirements, goals, stage of development, and knowledge gained from the data maturity framework.

Dashboards & Reporting:
Our work with non-profits often includes a focus on the data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) pipeline. How does data get from input to reporting in the safest, most efficient, and cost-effective manner? How can we improve our analysis, reporting, and communication tools?
We can assess and improve ETL pipelines and build custom dashboards and reporting solutions.
Impact Workshop:
City Flourish offers Impact Workshops to help agencies expand their capacity to measure program outcomes and impact. Workshops cover three main areas: Impact frameworks, data strategy, and communications strategy. Organizations can host an Impact Workshop with other local non-profits or arrange a two-day onsite workshop for leadership teams.
Program Evaluation:
Our team of consultants can serve as external evaluators or provide consulting to strengthen internal program evaluation. Evaluation services include process, outcome, and impact evaluations. Learn more about program evaluation services (link to program eval. Page)
Strategy and Technical Consulting:
We use Strat-OP as our primary strategic consulting process (add image and text from technical consulting)
Our founder, Wes Furlong, is certified in StratOp, a strategic planning process aimed at closing the gap between vision and day-to-day action. StratOp includes:
- Perspective (where are we now?)
- Planning (where are we headed?)
- Action (what’s important now?)
- Structure (what form best facilitates our plan?)
- Management (how are we doing?)
- Renewal (what must change?)
We also provide technical consulting to help organizations develop efficient and user-friendly processes and platforms that generate evidence, answer the most important questions, and communicate in a compelling way.
Spatial Analysis:
Our Geographic Information Services (GIS) include operations dashboards, custom and interactive mapping applications, and story maps. City Flourish can conduct temporal-spatial analysis as part of an asset or needs assessment. By linking time-series and spatial analysis, we can better understand factors influencing local and regional trends.
A recent example of this work is the Mason Wellness Study. Survey data from the Harvard Flourishing Measure (https://hfh.fas.harvard.edu/measuring-flourishing) was joined with secondary data to assess the factors that influence individual and community wellbeing.
